Russia send soldiers to Central African Republic

On December 21 Russia dispatched troops to the Central African Republic (CAR). The reason is ostensibly to forestall a putsch planned for the upcoming weekend. Rwandan troops joined the Russian mission.The CAR accused the erstwhile president Francois Bozize of planning a forcible seizure of power. Three rebel forces fused into one and marched on the capital city Bangui.The CAR Government announced that several hundred Russian soldiers had arrived with heavy weaponry. They are accompanied by a similar complement of Rwandans. The Rwandans have already started to battle the insurgents.Moscow stated that it has sent soldiers to CAR because the UN peacekeeping force has been attacked by rebels. Russia accused Bozize of being in cahoots with the rebels.Russian security companies have been deployed in the country for several years. These include Wagner Group. Some have been hired by the President of the CAR.The United Nations claims that the rebels have been repelled by UN Forces. This casts doubt on Russia's pretext for airlifting soldiers to the country.
