Russia stands by Iran

On June 16 Moscow said that Russia supports Iran in the face of enhanced US sanctions. The Iranian economy was indisputably reeling even before coronavirus. The US is seeking to extend an arms embargo on Iran. Moscow described the embargo as unlawful. Russia stands by Iran her ally in Syria.Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov visited Teheran on June 16 to meet the Iranian Foreign Minister. Iran has granted access to civilian nuclear sites to outside inspectors that were previously closed to them. For 30 years the US and Israel have been saying that Iran is about to develop a nuclear bomb.Russia still supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). JCPOA was unilaterally repudiated by the United States in 2018. Iran has been enriching uranium since the US abandoned JCPOA.
