Russia to build a pipeline to Pakistan

On January 4 it was announced by the Pakistani Prime Minister's Office that Pakistan and Russia shall build a 1 100 km LNG pipeline and gas terminals. Construction is due to commence in July 2021. Pakistan will own at least 51% of the pipeline and Russia the rest.Sui Northern Gas co and Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Ltd are the two Pakistani companies most involved in the project. A Russian consortium will also participate. Russia has a close relationship with Pakistan's nemesis: India. However, Moscow has also cooperated with Islamabad. Russia needs Pakistani friendship to have influence in Afghanistan. Russia also wants to have Islamabad help them maintain cordial relations with post Soviet Muslim state such as Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. The Pakistanis have been invited to take part in military competitions in Russia. Pakistan is a major emerging market for super chilled fuel. Pakistan's domestic gas supply is insufficient for its ever growing demand. The 200 000 000 population is growing rapidly and as people become richer they need more electricity. The country uses 700 million cubic feet of LNG per day.Pakistan has 2 LNG terminals. These are at capacity.
