Russia to sell missiles to India

On February 5 it was announced that Russia will sell S-400 missiles to India in 2021. This will anger the US and possibly provoke sanctions on India. But India is so gigantic that it is hard to push around. The US previously stated that if India bought military equipment from Russian then sanctions would ensue. Five batteries are to be sold. The S-400 is a missile defense system - it can shoot down missiles and planes. This will fall foul of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctons Act (CAATSA). It is possible that the US will grant India a dispensation as the Indians are arguing that the S-400 is to counter China.
