On September 7 it was reported that Russia has pulled its regional task force from Belarus. Ukrainian border authorities have confirmed this as have Belarusian oppositionists. They were deployed to Belarus in 2022 when Lukashenko said that Ukraine was plotting to invade. Ukraine said that a few Russian troops remain in Belarus. There now seems to be no chance that Russia will attack Ukraine from the north in the foreseeable future. Russia has removed many air force assets from Belarus, too. Russia has not commented on the redeployments. Presumably the soldiers are needed either to repel the Ukrainian counter-offensive or to launch a Russian offensive. There are still 2,500 Wagner fighters in Belarus. That is a small proportion of the total Wagner force as it stood before the June 2023 mutiny.
