On November 26 the BBC and a Russian media outlet Mediazone said they could name 9,300 Russian soldiers who have died in the Ukraine War. It is thought that the true number of war deaths could easily be double this. The report said that total casualties (dead, wounded, missing and captured) could have reached 100,000. 326 of the men mobilized in September 2022 are already proven to have been killed. 35 died of accidents and illnesses before even reaching the battle zone. Officers make up 15% of those killed despite being well under 15% of the army. 4 generals, 47 colonels and 101 pilots have been killed. These officers take years to train. Paratroopers have sustained heavy casualties. They are a spearhead force and led the assault in the opening phase of the war. The Krasnodar Region suffered the most deaths followed by Buryatia and Dagestan. That is shocking considering Buryatia's low population. Moscow has 10% of the population and only 0.5% of the deaths. This confirms yet again that the draft targets the socially marginal: the poor, the ethnic minorities, those from remote regions and prisoners.
