On March 4 Sergei Shoigu's visit was to boost morale. Russian media reported that Shoigu was inspecting the front in Donetsk. Bakhmut is in Donetsk. The head of Wagner Group said on March 2 that the fall of Bakhmut is imminent and that the Ukrainians control only one road into the city. In February 2023 he said the city might not be taken until the end of April 2023. Ukraine said that it shall defend Bakhmut as long as possible, implying that they cannot hold it forever. On March 2 Zelensky said the situation there was very difficult. It is expected that Ukraine will withdraw from the city in March 2023. On March 3 Biden hosted the German Chancellor. The US pledged another USD 400 million in security assistance to Ukraine. The new packaged includes rockets for HIMARS. It seems that Ukraine has been supplied with longer-range rockets in recent weeks. The German Chancellor said his country shall back Ukraine as long as necessary. On March 3 Putin's spokesman said that Western arms deliveries are merely prolonging the war and impoverishing Western citizens. Russia has chosen to highlight an alleged Ukrainian incursion into Bryansk Region that left 2 Russian civilians dead and a 10-year-old boy injured. The child has been awarded a medal for saving people. It is a welcome distraction for Russia from the frontline, where casualties are far higher and there is little again.Â
