Russian Deputy Foreign Minister in South Korea

On February 4 the visit by Andrei Rudenko to Seoul took place. Russo-South Korean relations were discussed as well as the Ukraine War. Rudenko met his South Korean opposite number. Rudenko has special responsibility for Asia-Pacific matters in the Russian Foreign Ministry. South Korea voiced its serious unease with Russia's increasingly cooperative relationship with North Korea on military matter. Seoul strongly suggested that Russia desist from this. After China, Russia is the main trade partner of North Korea. Pyongyang is one of only 5 countries to vote for Russia's position on Ukraine. On February 3 the Russian Foreign Ministry's main spokeswoman claimed that rising asperity in Korea is mainly because of the policies of the US, South Korea and Japan. She claimed that US dominance is slipping and that the United States could easily abandon South Korea. The South Korean President said on February 2 that North Korea is the only country to have passed a law allowing for a nuclear first strike. Some Western analysts say they think that North Korea is testing nuclear missiles and then dispatching them to Russia where they will be deployed against Ukraine.
