On August 15 it was announced by the BBC that 3 Bulgarians were arrested in the UK February 2023 but their arrest has only been publicized now. The 3 were suspected of spying for Russia. It has been alleged that they had fake passports stating they were citizens of several European countries including the UK, Italy, the Czech Republic and France. The 2 men and 1 woman had been resident in the UK for several years before their arrests. One of them did legitimate business with Russia such as signal intelligence. The woman and one of the men were a couple. The 3 were involved in Bulgarian community activities and spoke excellent English. The 3 will face trial in 2024 for allegedly breaching the Official Secrets Act. They have all been released on bail, which suggests that the British are not too worried about them. In Poland on August 15, 2 Russians were arrested on suspicion of espionage. The men were arrested in Warsaw and Krakow. The Polish Interior Ministry also said the men are suspected of disseminating pro-Wagner Group propaganda. Poland said that since August 8 Wagner stickers and slogans have been appearing across Poland and QR codes to take people to a Russian website promoting Wagner. Russia has so far not commented on the case. Poland is a NATO and EU country. It hosts more Ukrainian refugees than any other country. Poland is deeply concerned about the presence of Wagner fighters in Belarus close to the border. Poland has sent more troops to the border.
