Russian mercenaries seize Libyan oil field

On June 25 Russian and other mercenaries took over an oil field in the south Libya. The Libyan Government announced the Al Sharaa field's seizure. It belongs to the National Oil Corporation (NOC) which is Libyan. The oil field produces 315 000 barrels a day. That is a third of the country's output. The field is run by a consortium of NOC, Total, OMV, Repsol and Statoil.Al Sharaa is now controlled by Khalifa Haftar a Libyan-American who leads the Libyan National Army. LNA is stronger in the eastern half of the country. The LNA has the support of France, the UAE, Russia and Jordan. The Government of National Accord (GNA) is the international recognized government of Libya. GNA holds the capital and has the Turkish military support.In May 2020 the UN issued a report saying Wagner Group Russian mercenaries are in Libya and are at least several hundred in number. Moscow said that was a lie.
