Russian national projects stalling

On May 21 the Secretary of the National Security Council said that corruption is hampering the national projects. Procurement rules are not being adhered to. Work is sometimes badly executed or incomplete and account are falsified. Volga District is especially bad and USD 105 million would have been lost had the state not identified the abuses.The national projects are supposed to cost over USD 420 billion in 13 sectors or more. On May 19 Putin said that coronavirus has delayed the projects. The Finance Minister stated that the projects will have to reduced in scale.The FSB has been told to keep an eye on those carrying out the national projects.Siluanov said certain projects are guaranteed such as social ones and the Moscow-St Petersburg rail upgrade. Projects that have not yet been begun might be cut.
