Russian suffered 950,000 excess deaths since pandemic began

On January 28 data was published by the Russian Statistics Agency showing that Russia has experienced the sharpest natural population decline since the early 1990s. The excess deaths in 2020 and 2021 are on top of the deaths one would ordinarily expect.There were one million more deaths than births in 2021. Moreover, many migrant workers left the country in 2020 and have not returned to Russia.In December 2021 215,000 Russians died. That is a 42% increase. The data shows that 662,000 people have died of coronavirus since March 2020. That is more than double the number that the government says. Russia has suffered more excess deaths than any country except India. India has ten times the population of Russia. Putin wanted to boost the Russian population. However, the population is shrinking.The departure of guest workers back to Central Asia is more of a blow to the population than it appears. Guest workers are mostly very young.
