Sanctions impact Russian IT

In April 2022 the Prime Minister asked IT specialists not to leave the country. Russia is still trying to build a sovereign internet.  Digital Platforms is a Russian IT company that has made NashStore, which is Russia's answer to Google Play. It is doubtful that Russian alternatives can provide the same quality was Western equivalents. The opposition-aligned Internet Protection Society is scornful of the notion that Russia can equal Western IT prowess.  Russia has Tamtam for messaging and Rossgram for Instagram. Both are problematic. Rossgram is still not available! RuStore is in beta testing. Google Play still functions in Russia. However, payment-based services are not available in Russia. Sanctioned Russian companies cannot have their apps used. Russia created a Russian version of Google Play in June 2022. This is NashStore. NashStore has suffered denial-of-service attacks. A million bots inundated its servers. Other Russian companies are competing with NashStore RuMarket opened in April 2022 as an app store. RuStore was launched by VK, Yandex, Kaspersky Lab and Sberbank. RuStore seems to be the government's favored answer to Google Play. In July 2022 the Duma passed a law saying that a Russian app store will be created and its installation on all electronic devices is mandatory.  Tech companies have little expertise in bringing apps to market. On the day NashStore opened, users were told that they must download the app through Yandex Disk. The company did not buy a business account from Yandex. Therefore, only 1,000 downloads were allowed.
