Shooting across the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan

On April 14 the foreign ministers of the two Central Asian countries met to talk about tensions along their frontier. 7 people were shot; both civilians and border guards. The governments are seeking to de-escalate the predicament.There were demonstrations outside the Tajik Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. There have been clashes every few weeks along the border since 1991. The border is not clearly delineated. The two countries agree on only half of the 970 km border. There are various exclaves in the Ferghana Valley making the issue extremely complex.Both countries are in the CSTO military alliance along with Russia. Moscow is disinclined to adjudicate the dispute.
