South Africa’s Economy Expands in 2Q 2016

According to the official gross domestic product (GDP) data released by Statistics South Africa today, the economy expanded by 3.3% on a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted annualized basis; the highest since the 4.1% recorded in the last quarter of 2014. Today’s higher than expected performance follows a contraction of 1.2% in the previous quarter (Q1 2016). See Graph 1.
