South Korea reacts to Putin's visit to North Korea

On June 21 Seoul summoned the Russian Ambassador to register South Korea's displeasure at the defense agreements signed by Putin and Kim Jong Un. South Korea asked that Russia end its military collaboration with North Korea and re-commence adherence to UN Security Council Resolutions. Russia voted for these resolutions that relate to North Korea's nuclear weapons. The Russo-North Korean defense agreement states that either country may come to the aid of the other if it is attacked. Pyongyang could use this to call for Russian support. Note that ''support'' does not actually mean Russia would fight for them. Russia claims that Ukraine started the war against them. Moscow could invoke the agreement to ask North Korea to send troops to Ukraine. To date South Korea provided humanitarian aid but no lethal aid to Ukraine. It provides non-lethal military aid such as helmets and body armor to Ukraine. South Korea is a US ally and hosts thousands of US troops. South Korea has a formidable military manufacturing sector. Its black panther tank is considered one of the world's best. South Korea has a policy that prohibits it from exporting arms to belligerents in a war such as Ukraine. South Korea said it will review the policy. Russia counseled Seoul not to make a provocative move.
