STF indicts Bolsonaro for alleged coup plot, Bolsonaro expected to ramp up political activity amid legal setbacks, and Lula's approval drops sharply as polls show he would lose in key 2026 matchups
As expected, the First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court accepted the indictment against former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven others accused of attempting a coup following the 2022 elections. Given the legal challenges he faces, Bolsonaro may be pressured to, even discreetly, begin building an alternative presidential candidacy. Regarding Lula, a survey conducted by the Futura Institute, released yesterday and carried out between March 19 and 22, shows that the negative rating (poor/terrible) of President Lula’s (PT) government rose by 9.4 percentage points since December, reaching 52.6%. The positive rating (great/good) dropped by 5.6 points in the same period, landing at 26.8%. The “regular” rating fell by 2.6 points, reaching 20.2%.
