The Cabinet intends to impose new strict lockdown for the New Year holidays, approximately from the mid of December till the mid of January. COVID-19 incidences have already exceeded 16000 cases per day and healthcare system barely proceeds the flow of heavy cases. The Minister of healthcare already for several weeks openly tells to public that we are on the way to the healthcare system collapse unless strict lockdown imposed. From November 13 till November 30 the Cabinet introduced so called “weekend lockdown” which was widely ignored by local authorities. Micro-entrepreneurs protest against strict lockdown for New Year season because it used to be a traditional hot season for micro-businesses to make the ends meet. Still it looks like the Cabinet intends to sacrifice micro-entrepreneurs (which has minor role in economy) to curb COVID-19 pandemic. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy even initiated a package of financial compensation for those micro-businesses that will not manage to survive this lockdown (challenging idea given already existent problems with budget deficit financing). The decision on strict lockdown is expected to be delivered over the upcoming days. Big doubts on compliance to the Cabinet decision. As we see after local elections mayors of the cities and local authorities simply ignore the central authorities.
