Synthesis of the Brazilian economy
The change in the international scenario, with the appreciation of the dollar triggering a wave of revisions of the risk perceptions of emerging countries, ended a long period of leniency, during which investors did not react to the errors in conducting economic policies based on the consideration that there was still time to gain further from their bets. The country’s paralysis during the long truckers’ strike revealed to the world just how fragile the current government is, accentuating the risk perception and, consequently, the depreciation of the real. Additionally, its direct and indirect effects on the economy and confidence, especially of consumers, will tend to reduce the growth pace of the already anemic Brazilian economy. With this, the election in October will occur in an even more uncertain climate than envisioned a few months ago.
