Teich takes over as Minister of Health amid political friction

Nelson Teich took office today as the new Minister of Health. He replaces Luiz Henrique Mandetta. In his speech after taking office, Teich, without giving further details about his action plan to combat the coronavirus, said that the Ministry´s activities will be focused on people. For the time, being, it is not yet clear whether Nelson Teich will propose a change to social distancing policies, which caused a series of clashes and the fall of Mandetta. The debate over isolation measures will likely be long and continue to generate political friction, as Bolsonaro’s pressure in favor of opening business is unlikely to cease.
