The ANC offers more promises during its 111th annual anniversary celebrations
Following his victory at the African National Congress (ANC) at the December 2022 Elective Conference that secured him a second term as the party’s leader, President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the ANC’s January 8th Statement. The annual delivery of the Party’s plans for both the organization itself and the country (as the governing party), to a significant extent, paves way for the President’s State of the Nation Address in February as regards policies to be pursued.
Consequently, the ANC presents a number of priorities each year at the events, with six included in the 2023 statement as top priority actions following the party’s 55th National Conference. Of these, the party’s first priority is listed as implementing “specific initiatives and programs to deepen the renewal of the ANC”. On this matter, the party recognizes that in order to succeed, it needs to both tackle its weaknesses and transform the party into a “renewed, responsive, modernized, well-governed, well-resourced, ethical, caring and effective political formation”. The recent re-election of President Ramaphosa as the party’s leader, of course, has huge implications for the party, especially in terms of ideology.
