Municipal elections were held across Chile on Sunday, and the results were a surprise to Chile’s political class – even the winners. For the most part, it was a good day for the opposition, which won more votes, more mayors and more council members nationwide. Chile Vamos won 38.4% of the popular vote across the board, while the Nueva Mayoría obtained 37.1%. The right-wing is now in charge of 142 cities and municipalities in Chile, governing roughly 44% of Chileans.
