Yesterday, the government suffered symbolic defeats in Congress. President Lula's veto of the law that prohibited temporary release of prisoners to visit family members, known as “saidinhas”, was overridden. On the other hand, former President Jair Bolsonaro's veto was maintained against crimes against the Democratic Rule of Law, such as fake news in electoral campaigns. Also yesterday, the House approved Bill 914/2024, which creates the Green Mobility Program (Mover). The approved text also ends the Import Tax exemption for international purchases of up to 50 USD, which will be taxed at 20%. The Tax Reform Working Group (GT) in the House is preparing a series of 17 public hearings with representatives of the Ministry of Finance’s technical team and the private sector.
