The country’s Bureau of National Statistics reported that in 11M22, the monthly short-term indicator (a proxy for overall economic activity) was up by 3.2% y-o-y, which was slightly better than in 10M22 (3.1%). The industry was up by 1.4% y-o-y over the same cumulative period. Such sectors as construction, transportation, agriculture, and trade grew faster – by 4.3%, 4.0%, 8.5%, and 4.8% (all figures are y-o-y in 11M22). Surprisingly, the Bureau reported that communications grew by a mere 0.5% y-o-y over 11M22, while in 10M22, the figure was reportedly 7.1%. Such a difference could be either a typo or a result of some statistical revisions – it will require a closer look at all available numbers to understand such a dramatic change. So far, the Bureau published only a few flash estimates. At a glance, it looks as though in November, the Kazakh economy was stable, and the economic growth rate was slightly higher than in the previous months. Evgeny Gavrilenkov Alexander Kudrin
