The opposition may file a request to establish a Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) to investigate the diversion of more than R$ 6 billion from INSS retirees and pensioners. The scandal led to the resignation of Carlos Lupi from the Ministry of Social Security. The Speaker of the Lower House, Deputy Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, the inaugural meeting of the Special Committee that will analyze the bill on income tax exemption for individuals earning up to R$ 5,000 per month. The committee will be chaired by Congressman Rubens Pereira Júnior (PT-MA), with Arthur Lira (PP-AL) serving as rapporteur. The Senate’s Committee on Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) will begin discussions on Wednesday, May 7, regarding Supplementary Bill No. 108/24, which addresses the Steering Committee for the Goods and Services Tax (a regulation of the Tax Reform).
