After a week spent puking his lungs out in violent spasms of pneumonia, the politics author returns to his job, predicting President Erdogan will approve Sweden’s accession to NATO before or during the Vilnius Summit. He may need some encouraging words from Biden though, re. the F-16 order, to take the final step.

Although he loathes to do magazine stuff, in order to penetrate the thick mist surrounding Mehmet Simsek’s re-appointment and the question of what he is tasked to do, he also shares some of the more believable stories circulating in Turkey. In a nutshell, he is having difficulty building a team, though he has some backing from the Erdogan family.
