Turkey and Azerbaijan conduct combined military manoeuvres on Armenian frontier

On February 2 the two countries' armies exercised in eastern Turkey. This was close to the frontier with Armenia. Turkish troops are openly stationed in Azerbaijan. Up till now Azerbaijan has not sent a significant number of troops to Turkey.The ostensible reason for the drill was to practice fighting in deep winter. However, there may be ulterior motives, such as to threaten Armenia and to signify to Russia that Azerbaijan's military integration with Turkey is not going to change.There are outstanding issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Both sides accuse the other of not returning some POWs. Also, the ceasefire line is not absolutely clear.
