Turkmenistan hosted Taliban talks

On February 6 Ashgabad had a Taliban delegation in town for negotiations. The Turkmen Government routinely denounces internal dissidents as Islamic extremist even if they are totally secular. But the government is in talks with the Taliban because Turkmenistan borders Afghanistan. The issues were security and trade.The Afghan Conflict is at its lowest level for 42 years. Turkmenistan is preparing for US withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Taliban is going to be a major force in Afghanistan and might even be the government again. Turkmenistan is desperate for the TAPI pipeline to be builty from its land across Afghanistan and on to Pakistan and India. TAPI is part funded by the Asian Development Bank. TAPI would allow Turkmenistan to export 30 billion cubic meters of gas per annum.
