Ukraine advances east of Kharkiv

The Russian Army is having difficulty as the Ukrainians have gradually moved forward from the eastern city. Ukraine claims to have moved forward 50 km which is unlikely. Ukraine has definitely retaken a few villages. Kharkiv is Ukraine's second largest city. Kharkiv had been largely ignored for weeks as people focused on other sectors. Both Ukraine and Russia have not given away many details on the fighting near Kharkiv. But Russia confirms that fighting has intensified there. Pro-Moscow bloggers stated that the situation is difficult in the area. As Russia has reinforced Kherson this left Kharkiv lightly guarded. On September 7 Russia lost 76 pieces of equipment, 50 of which were lost near Kharkiv according to Oryx (an open source project). The Ukrainian strategy seems to be about attacking supply routes. Ukraine laments that the West is not supplying sufficient weapons, especially long-range and heavy ones.  The US National Security Advisor is said to be opposed to supplying long-range weapons as he fears escalation and believes that the Russians are open to serious talks.
