Ukraine appears to strike bases in Russia

On August 8 the Ukrainian military attacked a Russian naval air base. Russian sources acknowledged one person was killed and several were wounded. But the Russian government then said that there were no casualties. According to some sources there were 13 explosions. Russia admitted that there was an explosion but has not said there was more than one, nor has it attributed this to Ukrainian military action. The base attacked is 200 km behind the front lines. Until now it was thought that Ukraine did not have missiles that could reach that far. Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility. Unofficially Ukrainian sources have claimed that Ukrainian-made missiles were used.  Russia regards Crimea as sovereign territory. The international community does not agree. Russia warned Ukraine that any attack on Crimea would meet a severe response.The US has thus far refused to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles. It has forbidden Ukraine from using US munitions to strike inside Russia for fear of Russia's interpreting this as a US attack on Russia.
