Ukraine celebrates independence day as Johnson visits

On August 24 Ukraine marked 31 years of independence. It also happened to be 6 months since the war began. Zelensky vowed to recover all national territory without making concessions. He referred to the Russian Army as ''terrorists''. Charred Russian tanks were displayed in Kyiv.  UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was in Kyiv.  He was awarded a medal by Ukraine. He announced the United Kingdom is donating USD 64 million of military aid comprising 2,000 drones, anti-tank munitions and other equipment. On August 24 the US announced another USD 3 billion in military aid. There were no large scale gatherings in Kyiv on Independence Day for fear of a Russian attack. A Russian attack on a railroad station killed 22 people. The EU vowed to support the Ukrainians for as long as it takes. But this rings hollow as EU member states are donating less and less. Strangely, Belarus jubilated Ukraine on its Independence Day and expressed a wish for cordiality. Perhaps this is an offer to act as an intermediary in talks?
