Ukraine evacuating Donbas

Kyiv has called for civilians to leave Sloviansk as Russian soldiers advanced on the city. It is being heavily bombarded. Russia has found a winning strategy. It selects one city and bombards it incessantly. Russia is using its multiple rocket launchers to considerable effect. Ukraine accused the Russians of hitting civilian buildings. There is shelling all across the Donbas but Sloviansk is the location selected for heaviest shelling. Ukraine has received advanced artillery and rocket systems from NATO. These are helpful but there are not enough such systems to shift the balance of the war. In Kherson (southern Ukraine) the Ukrainians have launched a counter-offensive. Russia is concerned about this and had dispatched choppers and artillery to shore up its defenses there. On July 6 Sweden and Finland began their NATO accession process. Turkey has dropped its objection. On July 6 Latvia reintroduced compulsory military service for men. On July 6 a meeting of 40 pro-Ukrainian countries took place in Switzerland. The delegates agreed to fund Ukraine's post-war recovery. The cost will be over USD 750 billion The UN has confirmed 5,000 Ukrainian civilian deaths in this war.
