Ukraine puts up for sale state shares of eight electricity distributing companies

Yesterday the State property fund of Ukraine announced start of auctions on sale of state shares (25% for each company) of eight electricity distributing companies. The list for sale includes Odesaoblenergo, DTEK Dniprooblenergo, DTEK Dniproenergo, Donetskoblenergo, Donbasenergo, Sumyoblenergo, Zahidenergo, Kyivenergo. It’s a first noticeable privatization effort over the last year. Definitely it’s not start of big privatization. And very likely it’s just a symbolic move to show the IMF that at least something happens with state property sale. In the meantime draft law that simplifies privatization and installs more transparent rules is pending for new parliamentary session. The Cabinet emphasizes on importance of the legislation but even authors of the law are quite skeptical on its chances at the parliament.
