Ukraine receives more arms donations

On May 28 Zelensky was in Belgium, where he met the king and the prime minister. Belgium pledged 30 F16 jets. Some will be delivered by the end of 2024 and the rest by 2028. The two countries signed a bilateral security partnership. Belgium said the fighter jets must only be used in Ukraine. Ukrainian pilots are already being trained on them by Belgians. Some donors such as France and the United Kingdom have authorized Ukraine to use the arms they have donated to strike inside Russia. But the US and Germany have forbidden Ukraine from doing so with arms they have given. The NATO Secretary General asked countries to allow Ukraine to use the weapons they have donated to hit targets in Russia.  Russia has warned that Western nations permitting Ukraine to use their arms inside Russia risks a conflict between Russia and the Western world. On May 29 Sweden announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth USD 1.3 billion. Ukraine badly needs the planes because of incessant Russian bombardment of east Ukraine. It is also giving radar surveillance planes. Sweden only joined NATO in 2024. On May 27 Zelensky was in Portugal to meet the government.
