On November 7 Zelensky said that his country had deployed NASAMS air defense systems. These are surface-to-air missiles for short-to-medium range. The US said NASMAS have a 100% success rate in stopping Russian missiles. Ukraine anticipates a Russian air assault on the energy infrastructure. This happened in 2022 but Russia began in October last year. In 2023 Russia had barely touched Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Russia seems to have more shells and has intensified bombardment around Avdiivka. Ukraine and the US said this is with North Korean shells. Ukraine says it needs longer-range missiles and air superiority to defeat Russia. The US announced another USD 425 million in aid for Ukraine. A third of this is for munitions. An aid package for Ukraine and Israel worth USD 106 billion is stuck in the US Congress. Politicians cannot agree on whether to fund one country or another or both. USD 61 billion of this would go to Ukraine. This is a staggering amount. All Western military aid for Ukraine has totalled USD 100 billion since the war began. It is probable that Ukraine will get more aid from the US but not the whole USD 61 billion and not until December 2023 at the earliest.
