Ukraine says counteroffensive is in progress

On June 10 Zelensky publicly confirmed that it has commenced. Unsurprisingly, he declined to delve into detail. Russia says it is battling in the south and east of Ukraine. The US-based Institute for the Study of War said that Ukraine has an advantage according to Russia because it has night optics. The Prime Minister of Canada visited Kyiv on June 10. He publicly promised more military aid worth USD 375 million. This is his second visit to Ukraine since the war began. Canada has trained over 36,000 Ukrainian troops. It is training Ukrainians on fighter jets, too. Russia continues to pound Ukraine with drones. But these attacks are less frequent and intense than they were in early June 2023. The President of France asked his Iranian counterpart to end Iran's military aid to Russia. Iran says it sold drones to Russia but only before the war. The US alleges that Iran is selling material from the country to enable Russia to construct a drone factory in 2024.
