Ukrainian Defense Minister fired

On February 6 Oleksiy Reznikov was fired as President Zelensky announced this decision. The chief of military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, is expected to take his place. There have been corruption allegations around Reznikov. It is rumored that Reznikov is going to be appointed Minister for Strategic Industries. This is surprising considering the allegations against him. He served as Defense Minister from November 2021 and was effective in some ways. The EU is eager to see Ukraine prove that it is tackling corruption. Ukraine has to prove it is worthy to receive armaments and financial aid. Ukraine is now asking for jets.  On February 5 Zelensky said the country was strengthening its military. He repeated that Ukraine wants to begin accession talks with the EU in 2023. A Russian offensive is expected this month. The Battle of Bakhmut continues to rage. Russia claims to be gaining ground.  Russia continues to launch missiles at Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Kharkiv and Odesa have been hit.
