Ukrainian gas company received disputed payment from Gazprom

On December 27 Nafotogaz stated it was paid USD 2.9 billion by Gazprom. This is pursuant to the decision of an arbitration court in Stockholm. Naftogaz agreed to drop a claim for USD 12 billion against Gazprom in return for accepting the other payment. The two companies have signed an agreement to take effect from January 1 2020 and to last for 5 years. It is about Russian gas transiting Ukraine en route to the EU. The deal is another sign of a thaw in relations between the countries. Gazprom is a semi-state company.
