On April 27 Antonio Guterres visited Putin. He had a candid discussion with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, who warned NATO that it is risking World War III.Guterres said he was on a peace mission. He said that the UN General Assembly had voted that Russia had violated Ukraine's territory and independence as well as breaching the UN Charter. This resolution is non-binding.The UN repeated its appeals for a ceasefire and humanitarian corridors. He expressed concern about civilians in Mariupol. Guterres expressed anxiety about allegations of human rights abuses. He was pleased that Putin agreed to the UN and Red Cross evacuating civilians from Mariupol.Guterres said he was worried about food and energy price hikes caused by the war. Guterres is not an ideal UN Secretary General from Russia's point of view. He is a Portuguese and therefore a citizen of a NATO and EU country.On April 28 Guterres shall travel to Ukraine to meet Zelensky.
