Many historians call the Ukraine War the gateway to the second Cold War, which may be a bit premature, but it is certainly having long-term spillover effects across the world. Turkey does not have a new foreign policy blueprint to deal with the challenges of the New Era, with Ankara still preoccupied with turning the war to diplomatic coin. We have over-used the expression “expect the unexpected”, but the contagion from Ukraine certainly deserves another mention.

At home, the AKP-MHP front has been extraordinarily quiet, perhaps because it has been blindsided by the severity and duration of the war. We have no word on amendments to the Electoral Bill, or Social Media Content Regulation draft bill. But, Erdogan booted another minister, with more to come if scuttlebutt is to be believed. New ministers won’t signal new policies, though.
