United Nations asks for USD 4.2 billion in aid for Ukraine

On January 15 the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNCHA) asked for this amount in humanitarian aid. This is to provide for people in Ukraine and for Ukrainians who have fled abroad. 40% of the Ukrainian population is dependent on aid. Over 6 million Ukrainians are refugees abroad. UNCHA said the money is needed for shelter, clothing, food and medicine. Some people are living in inadequate housing that is war damaged and/or has lost water, electricity and gas. USD 3.1 billion would be for people in Ukraine and the rest for Ukrainians abroad. Ukraine is deeply worried by falling donations. On January 15 the French Foreign Minister visited Kyiv. He discussed Ukraine's defense needs but did not make pledges of aid.
