US alleges that South Africa sold arms to Russia

The United States said that a Russian ship arrived in Cape Town to pick up a cargo of arms and ammunition in December 2022. The US has been openly critical of South Africa for being amicable with Russia since 2022. South Africa took part in military drills with Russia and China in February 2023. South Africa denies arming Russia. The country professes to be neutral on Ukraine. But the president has appointed a judge to investigate the claims. South Africa is due to host a BRICS summit. Putin was supposed to attend but might not go because of the ICC arrest warrant for him. South Africa has ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC.
