US and EU impose new sanctions on Russia and other Syria backers

On June 17 the United States' and EU's new sanctions on Syria's supporters came into effect. The sanctions penalize any company, institution or individual that does business with Syria. In the US the law is called the Caesar Act.Russia will be impacted by this as well as China, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and other countries. The US said that the sanctions will be ended if Syria abides by Resolution 2254. The Syrian Government has regained control of most of its territory after a 9 year civil war. 7% of the population has been killed and at least 10% has fled the country.Moscow denounced the sanctions as an attempt to bring down Syria's rightful government.
