US and Russian defense chiefs speak by phone

On October 21 Lloyd Austin and Sergei Shoigu spoke about the Ukraine War. Russia confirmed this on the government Telegram channel. Washington DC and Moscow have had the hotline since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The US suggested keeping this hotline active in the Ukraine War in case something happens that requires the US and Russia to defuse a situation that could cause a war between them. Washington DC said that Austin urged his analogue to keep the line of communication open. Russia has accused the US of protracting the war by arming Ukraine. The United Kingdom has a hotline with Russia. The UK called the number every day for the first few weeks of the war just to test it. The Russians never answered. In November 2020 the G20 summit will be held in Indonesia. At the summit, Biden says he does not intend to meet Putin, who will attend.
