On November 20 Lloyd Austin visited Ukraine for the second time since the war began. He assured Ukraine that the US is committed to helping Ukraine fight for the long term. Zelensky said Ukraine is ingratiated to the US for all its help. 55% of Ukraine's military aid comes from the United States. But this aid is increasingly in doubt. Austin's visit came as Russia began drone and missile attacks on Kyiv. Kyiv had gone 52 days without aerial bombardment. Russia's bombardment of Ukrainian cities is expected to be less intense than in 2022 due to a shortage of Russian equipment and improved Ukrainian air defense. On November 13 military aid to Ukraine was omitted from the US budget bill because of disagreement on this. US aid to Ukraine is almost certainly going to diminish even if Biden is re-elected in 2024 and even if the Democrats control both uses of Congress. The only question is how much it will decrease.
