US pulls out of Open Skies accusing Russia of breaches

On May 21 the United States said that it would pull out of the Open Skies treaty because Russia is breaking it. There are 35 signatories of the treaty. The US will leave in November 2020. The treaty was signed in 2002. It permits signatories to fly surveillance flights over each others' land. The aim is to reduce international tensions by allaying fears that other nations are preparing to attack.The US accused Russia of serially violating the treaty. Russia has been blocking the US from overflying Kaliningrad and near Georgia. Last year Trump pulled the US out of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty which was signed with Russia years earlier. This latest US move is going to exacerbate asperity between the two countries.
