US sanctions on Russia and 10 diplomats expelled

On April 15 Washington announced additional sanctions and said these were hitting back for meddling in elections and for a huge cyberattack. US banks face extra restrictions on trading in Russian sovereign debt. 32 individuals who allegedly interfered in the 2020 elections are now subject to sanctions. 10 Russian diplomats have been declared personae non gratae on suspicion of being intelligence officers.Oddly, this move comes days after Biden proposed meeting Putin. Moscow was pleased with the proposal. Russia has vowed to retaloate for the sanctions. The recent buildup of Russian troops near Ukraine has strained relations with the USA.The EU, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom have also sanctioned 8 people and organizations connected to Russia's position in Crimea.
