Vaccination against Covid-19 begins

Today, the vaccination process of the Dominican population against Covid-19 begins. The first vaccines arrived yesterday and correspond to the Covishield vaccine, developed in India by Astrazeneca. The National Vaccination Plan against Covid-19 was also presented yesterday, which contemplates the vaccination of 7.8 million Dominicans 18 years of age or older. The Plan is structured in phases, initially giving priority to medical personnel, adults over 65 years of age, military personnel and teachers. Then follow the 50-59-year-olds and finally the 18-49-year-olds. The Dominican government has bought 21 million vaccines, coming from Astrazeneca, Pfizer, Covax. and Sinovac. How quickly the vaccination process progresses will depend on how quickly the contracted vaccines arrive. President Luis Abinader complained about the lack of solidarity of large countries, which have monopolized vaccines, making it difficult for small countries to access vaccines against Covid-19.
