On August 19 the Kiel Institute published a study of Western aid for Ukraine. It concluded that in July 2022 aid to Ukraine fell dramatically. Most EU countries promised no additional aid that month. In July 2022 Ukraine received only USD 1.5 billion in new pledges of military and economic aid. Ukraine needs at least USD 6 billion just to continue in terms of paying salaries and for vital maintenance. From January to July 2022 Ukraine received about USD 74 billion. In July 2022 the six largest European countries did not promise any more significant aid. These are the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Poland. Norway was the only country to increase aid in July 2022. The US has given EUR 40 billion in 2022. The EU and its member states gave EUR 30 billion. Non-EU countries gave EUR 10 billion in 2022. The largest defense donors are the USA, Poland, and then, the UK. It seems war weariness has set in among European countries. Some of them have furnished weapons. There is little desire to provide more. European countries are suffering from rampant inflation and fuel price rises. This is what Russia is hoping will make Europe amenable to compromise.
