In our last Weekly, Yours Truly wrote an essay on internal criticism of the opposition Nation Alliance. While there are several shortcomings of the Alliance which is still a work in progress, lack of a common economic policy platform is the most glaring. While a six-party committee is currently working on such a platform, it may take months to deliver results. On the other hand, CHP is responding to public criticism about the lack of clarity in its economic vision. On Sunday, party spokesperson and former Undersecretary of Treasury Mr. Faik Oztrak unveiled a 10-point plan to combat inflation. In this Market Brief I merely list CHP’s proposals, which I need to assess with our economist Murat Ucer. More commentary will follow. Murat Yetkin: Opposition way behind the curve in economics Reporting about CHP leader Mr. Kilicdaroglu’s meeting with EU ambassadors, Murat Yetkin states: “When Kilicdaroglu told the EU Ambassadors that the constitutional amendment draft for the transition to the parliamentary system of the 6 opposition parties was at the final stage, the questions were whether there was an economic program”. The answer shows complacency among opposition ranks is worse than I reported in last Weekly: “Kilicdaroglu’s answer was interesting. He told the EU Ambassadors that Ali Babacan’s DEVA Party had initiated a project, and they would soon start working on this draft”. That is it. It is really a sad state of affairs.
